We deal with a broad range of emotional and psychological difficulties. These problems may be associated with how you feel about yourself, your relationships and your ability to cope with specific events. You might feel anxious and depressed. You may have complicated thoughts or feelings which you don’t know how to express in a healthy way. We often find that clients don’t know who to turn to for help. We carry out an assessment of your needs during the first session to find the best way of helping you.
Yes, we each hold professional indemnity insurance to cover all of our services.
Yes, we are Registered, Accredited Members of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) and we follow their Ethical Framework.
This is a difficult question to answer. Our clients have stated that they found the services beneficial. We do what we can to support clients, though the process is much more rewarding when clients are ready to work on themselves and their issues. We aim to create healthy working relationships with clients to aid this process. The initial assessment is an opportunity for clients to discuss their needs and difficulties. It also gives clients the chance to find out if counselling will suit them.
We accept cash, cheque or BACS payments. You can pay after sessions or in advance, we will send you an invoice at the beginning of the month for the retrospective month. Payment methods are always discussed and agreed in the initial consultation. If you are coming through and Employee Assistance Programme or insurance company then we will consult with them and you about payment as appropriate.
If a client misses a session, they will be expected to pay the full rate, as the missed session could have been used by another client and we incur costs for this time. If a client is late, the session will end at the original agreed time. If we are absent for any of our sessions, clients would not be expected to pay and where possible, alternative times will be offered.
Counselling can be a short or long process depending on the client’s needs. The end of therapy can be negotiated with the counsellor. We also offer a specialist short term counselling service for clients who have a specific problem they want to address (please see Specialist Services).
Usually sessions are once a week at the same time in the same room. Some clients choose to come more than once a week.
All counselling sessions are 50 minutes in length. The length (and frequency) of supervision sessions can be negotiated to suit the supervisee’s needs.
We accept self-referred clients and professional referrals e.g. through GPs, EAPs or insurance companies. Many of our clients have recommended our services to others. After the initial contact, we will make an appointment to conduct an assessment. If client and counsellor feel that we can work together, a regular weekly session is booked until a suitable end date is agreed.
